Opp battles in Terry Jinright tourney

The Opp Dixie Majors baseball team battled in the Terry Jinright Invitational Tournament this weekend in Troy.

GAME ONE

OPP 8,

TUSCALOOSA 2

In the opening game of pool play, Opp came away with an 8-2 win over Tuscaloosa Post 34.

Lane Ballard had a big day as he went 2-for-4 with a single, double, one run score and three RBIs.

Brady James went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a single, two RBIs and one run scored.

Case Short was 2-for-4 with a single, a double, and a run scored.

Taylor Duffell picked up the win on the mound as he struck out seven in seven innings and didn’t allow a single earned run.

GAME TWO

COLUMBIA 12,

OPP 0

In the second game of the tournament, Columbia came up with a 12-0 win.

Jesse Coon and Short each went 1-for-2 with a single.

Those were the only two hits of the contest for Opp.

Peyton Ellis and Short combined for two strikeouts.

GAME THREE

OPP 7,

MILLBROOK 2

Opp finished off pool play with a 7-2 win over Millbrook Post 133.

Blayne Moore went 2-for-2 with two singles, one RBI and one run scored.

Thomas Glisson went 2-for-2 with two singles, one RBI and one run scored.

Short had another strong game as he went 2-for-3 with two singles, one RBI and one run scored.

James earned the win on the mound as he struck out one batter in two innings of work.

Opp finished in second place in their pool and would play Montgomery in the tournament’s consolation game.

CONSOLATION GAME

MONTGOMERY 8,

OPP 5

In the tournament’s consolation game, Montgomery knocked off Opp 8-5.

The game was tied 5-5 going into the top of the fifth inning before Montgomery blasted a 3-run home run that put them up 8-5.

Ellis finished the game 1-for-2 with two walks, a single, two RBIs and one run scored.

Short went 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk, one RBI and one run scored.

Coon went 2-for-3 with two singles.

Stuart Baker struck out two batters in just over an inning of work.

Trey Boutwell struck out four batters in just over four innings on the mound.
