Scroggins probation hearing set for June 19

A man who pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a child under 12 has a probation hearing later this month.
George N. Scroggins, 87, of Florala pleaded guilty to the class B felony in February, according to Star-News archives.
He was sentenced to 12 years.
Attorney Bill Alverson represented Scroggins and Assistant District Attorney Nikki Stephens represented the state.
Scroggins was arrested in March 2016 by the Florala Police Department.
At the time, Florala Police Chief Sonny Bedsole said that his department received a complaint two months prior that a relative had walked into a home and observed a man groping and fondling his son.
Bedsole said at the time the child was 7.
The Covington County Child Advocacy Center helped with the case.
According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, Scroggins is serving his time currently in the Covington County Jail.
He has served three months and 19 days of his 12-year sentence.
According to the Covington County Circuit Clerk’s office, Scroggins probation hearing is set for June 19 at 9 a.m.
