Fourth of July is still a few weeks away, but there is some good news for those who plan to travel.
Clay Ingram, spokesperson for AAA Alabama, said Monday that gas prices are dropping.
“Our state average is $2.30 today, down 17 cents in the past month and 29 cents less than one year ago.”
Ingram said it looks like prices will continue to drop between now and the end of the year, but most of the decrease will come during the fall.
“Our domestic supply is stronger than ever and global demand is down quite a bit – especially in China,” he said. “The combination of those two things result in lower gas prices here in the U.S.”
In Covington County, the average price is $2.29 per gallon, a penny less than the state average, and less than all neighboring counties.
Statewide, Alabama prices are 19 cents cheaper than in Florida. So, those traveling to the Florida beaches, should fill up before they leave town.
