LBW Community College student Trystin Barber is spending his summer working at Shoe Department so he can help with bills around the house.

Barber began his job at Shoe Department in November.

“I really just wanted to get a job so I could start providing around the house,” Barber said. “Now I can pay for my own gas and help pay for bills. I just wanted to take a little bit off of my parents.”

Barber said the best part of his job is the environment.

“I love being able to talk to people and help them,” Barber said. “This is a great environment to work in.”

Although it is a laid back job, Barber said that he strives to make everything perfect.

“It’s challenging making sure that everything is right around the store,” Barber said. “I want to make sure that the right stuff is getting done in a timely manner and that the customer is happy.”

Trying to deal with school and work is another thing that Barber said is a challenge.

“I am lucky to have a great manager,” Barber said. “Christina [Tillis] is super flexible with my hours so I can go to class and work.”

For any students looking for a summer job, Barber said that Shoe Department is a great place.

“I would definitely recommend working here,” Barber said. “It is such a great environment and it is good pay.”

Barber is currently studying computer science at LBW Community College.
