Andy 8U downs Troy for district title

The Andalusia 8U All-Star baseball team knocked off Troy twice on Monday night to win the 2019 District 9 championship in Enterprise.

GAME ONE

ANDALUSIA 3,

TROY 1

Andalusia needed a win to keep the series going and they did just that with a 3-1 win in extra innings.

Defenses for both teams were on fire and the game remained scoreless through the first four innings of play.

In the top of the fifth inning, Row Thorn reached on an infield single.

M.J. Berry then put Andalusia on top when he drove in Thorn with a triple.

Berry nearly scored on the play was thrown out at the plate.

Troy came back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The score remained tied as the game headed into extra innings.

Isaack Harkins singled with two outs in the top of the eighth inning.

Berry then came through in the clutch with an inside-the-park-home-run to put Andalusia up 3-1.

Andalusia held off Troy in the final frame to force a winner take all final game.

GAME TWO

ANDALUSIA 7,

TROY 6

Andalusia clinched the title with a 7-6 win in the championship game.

Troy went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning.

Berry drove in Cooper Maynor and Thorn in the bottom of the first.

Andalusia trailed 5-2 in going into the bottom of the fifth when Kaleb Covin, Jackson Grimes, Beau Bennett and Collin Coursey drove in runs to put Andalusia up 6-5.

Troy tied the game in the top of the sixth.

Berry then drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
