Domino tourney here next weekend

The Andalusia Rotary Club is counting down the days to the 44th annual World Championship Domino tournament set for this coming weekend – July 12-13.

The event draws people from as far away as California, and regulars come from Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and more.

The club has awarded more than $980,000 in prize money and trophies since the Domino Tournament began in 1976.

This year’s tournament features a $5,000 first place prize to the winner in the singles competition, and $2,500 each to winners in doubles, with more than $20,000 in cash prizes guaranteed.

In addition, the club will host a Fantastic Domino Sweepstakes and seafood dinner on Friday night,with a $15,000 prize.

Early registration is $100 per player for adult singles or doubles. There is a $10 fee for late registration.

The singles tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, while the doubles tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

The club also has tournaments for teens and children.
