Fishing at Leon Brooks Hines Lake

Leon Brooks Hines State Lake offers plenty of fishing opportunities and is just a short drive from Andalusia.

They have everything you need to just drive down there and start fishing.

The on-site store sells rod and reel combos, live bait, coolers, ice, drinks, snacks and many other items.

It cost $3 to fish the entire day and children under 12 are allowed to fish for free.

The lake does require one to have a state fishing license or state lakes license.

They sell state lake licenses at the on-site store. For Alabama residents, a daily state lakes license is $6.25 and annual (valid from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31) are $12.45.

The lake allows people to launch their own boats for $3. Outboard motors may not be operated in the water. Only electric trolling motors are allowed.

For those without a boat, there is ample space along the banks and a large fishing pier.

They also offer boat rental packages for $27 which includes the boat launch fee.

One does not have to a boaters certification to rent a boat, but must be 16 years old or older.

Leon Brooks Hines State Lake is closed on Tuesdays and for the month of November in 2019.

Nigh fishing from the bank until midnight every Saturday till the end of August.

Everyone is welcome to use the grounds, pavilion and grills free of charge.
