READY TO HIT THE GRIDIRON: Andalusia opens 2019 season with Saraland

The Andalusia High School football team is a little over a month away from beginning the 2019 season.
Class 4A Andalusia kicks off the season on Aug. 23 against the Class 6A Saraland Spartans in Andalusia.
Saraland defeated Andalusia 41-3 last season. The Spartans lost to Pinson Valley in last year’s Class 6A state championship game.
Saraland senior quarterback Brett Nezat is a three-star prospect with offers from South Alabama, Toledo, Idaho and Georgia State.
Andalusia goes on the road on Aug. 30 with a trip to Montgomery to face the Trinity Wildcats.
Andalusia is 6-1 against Trinity and has won six-straight against the Wildcats.
The Bulldogs won last year’s game 23-7.
On Sept. 6, Andalusia heads to Mobile to square off with the UMS-Wright Bulldogs in the first Region 1 battle of the season.
UMS-Wright holds a 16-1 record over Andalusia. UMS-Wright won last year’s regular season game 17-0. The two teams meet again in the Class 4A semifinals with UMS-Wright winning 24-3. It was the second time in two years that Andalusia and UMS-Wright played each other in the semifinals.
Andalusia stays in region play with a game against the Monroe County Tigers on Sept. 13 in Monroeville.
The Bulldogs hold a 12-10 record over Monroe County.
Andalusia has won the past five contests including a 48-0 win last year.
On Sept. 20, Andalusia returns home with a region match against the Hillcrest-Evergreen Jaguars.
In 26 games, Andalusia holds a 15-11 record over the Jaguars.
The Jaguars won last season’s regular season game 41-10, but Andalusia knocked the Jaguars out of the playoffs with a 28-21 victory in the third round.
Heading back on the road for a short trip, Andalusia will take on rival Opp on Sept. 27 in Opp.
Andalusia holds a 50-36 record over Opp and has won the last 10 contests.
Last year, Andalusia won the game 55-7.
Andalusia returns home on Oct. 4 with a region game against the Williamson Lions.
This is the second meeting between the two schools with Andalusia winning last year’s contest 13-6.
Andalusia will travel to Atmore on Oct. 11 for a region match against Escambia County.
Andalusia holds a 22-16 record over Escambia County, but Escambia County won last year’s game 24-3.
The Bulldogs return home on Oct. 18 for a region battle with W.S. Neal.
Andalusia leads the all-time series 12-6 and has won the past five games.
Andalusia won last year’s game 49-7.
On Oct. 25, Andalusia wraps up the regular season with a region game at home against Clarke County.
This will be Andalusia’s homecoming.
Andalusia has a 5-3 record against Clarke County.
Andalusia won last year’s game 28-14.
