After competing in World Championship Domino Tournament since 1998, Chris Authement is the 2019 singles champion.
This is the first time that Authement has made it to the finals, but now he is the first ever participant to win the children’s, teens and adult singles competition.
“This feeling is hard to put into words,” Authement said. “Because my grandpa would bring me here every year, you know? My entire family that couldn’t be here today has put that support into me. This has been a dream since I started coming 22 years ago. It means a lot more to me than it does a lot of people. It is more than just dominos to me.”
Authement now has his name among past world champions such as Chick Earl, four-time winner Jerome Wooten and five-time winner James Morgan.
“This is an elite company,” Authement said. “If you are a domino player, then this is the tournament that you want to win and those guys are who you want to be like. Now my name is going to be on that trophy with them and that feeling is just hard to describe.”
With the championship comes a $5,000 check from the Andalusia Rotary Club and a gold belt sponsored by Mr. Mattress.
The runner up, Josh Baker, has also been coming for 22 years.
World Championship Domino Tournament action is still underway with registration for the doubles tournament beginning today at 8 a.m.
