Straughn High School hopes to improve from last season

The Straughn Tigers will kick off their season on the road in Headland on August. 23, hoping to improve over last year’s 2-8 season, finishing sixth in 3A, Region 2.

All-time the Tigers are 7-4 against Headland, and lost 43-0 last season.

The following week, they will host St. James, who the Tigers lost to 37-0 last season.

On Sept. 6, they will hit the road to take on in-county opponent Opp. The Tigers defeated the Bobcats 36-30 in overtime last season.

They will travel east on Sept. 13 to play region opponent Slocomb and then region opponent Houston Academy on Sept. 20. Last season the Tigers lost to Slocomb 21-6 and Houston Academy 31-7.

On Sept. 27, they will play Daleville at home, and Oct. 4, they will play region foe Geneva. Last season, Daleville defeated Straughn 10-8 and Straughn had 27-14 victory over Geneva.

On Oct. 11, they will travel to Wicksburg for region play. Wicksburg defeated Straughn 27-14 last season.

The last two games are at home against region opponents Providence Christian on Oct. 18 and Pike County on Oct. 25. Providence and Pike County beat Straughn 59-7 and 42-7, respectively last season.
