On Sun., July 14, Covington County Sheriff’s Department units responded to a residence on US 331 north of Opp.

A local resident had reported his 2012 Hyundai stolen. The description of the vehicle was immediately dispatched.  Opp Police Department Officer Jabe Thompson recognized the stolen car and attempted to stop the driver.

The driver, Justin Ward, 18, attempted to elude the pursuing officer.

Ward lost control of the stolen vehicle and crashed into a parked vehicle north of Opp. Speeds were at an excess of 100 miles per hour.

Ward was arrested and the scene was further processed. Another vehicle that was located at the residence of the victim was discovered to be stolen from Dothan.

The tenacity and determination of these officers are to be commended. Being able to solve a crime and make the arrest is a sign of good police work.  Thank you to the Opp Police Department for their assistance.
