Alabama’s 14th annual sales tax holiday for schools supplies begins today, and several local businesses are gearing up with sales.

The holiday will begin at 12:01 on Friday morning and end at midnight on Sunday.

JC Penney’s sales will vary all across the store.

“There will be various sales all across the store today,” Cranita Pitts said. “Different items will have different percentages off. We are also going to stay open longer for the weekend. I think this sales holiday is very important for the customers because we have select places to shop for back to school close and this gives us an opportunity for these customers to come in and save some money.”

The store will be open Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m., until 8 p.m., and Sunday until 6 p.m.

Utopia will have several sales going on, as well.

“As well as everything being tax-free, we are going to offer $5 off of $50, $10 off of $100, $15 off of $150 and $30 off of $200,” Lindsey Reeves said. “We are usually pretty busy during this holiday. It is very important to us because it helps so many people.”

Pink Peppers’ 10-year anniversary sale coincides with the tax-free holiday.

“We have several items that fall under the tax-free list,” Owner Marrianne Thomason said. “We have backpacks, locker items, clothing for children and adults, a tween section, a baby section and an Auburn and Alabama section. This weekend we are also going to have our gourmet food items out for sampling, giveaways and door prizes. We usually have some customers that wait for the tax-free holiday to come and shop. Being a mother and having a family, I know that we are all trying to look for the best deals. So, this holiday is just another way that we can help the residents of this county.”
