Donald Vanhook pled guilty to a violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) before Circuit Judge Lex Short.

He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment under the Habitual Felony Offender Act.

Vanhook, who had previously been convicted of Rape II and SORNA Violations, was required to notify law enforcement prior to vacating his registered address.

In a joint investigation conducted by the Opp Police Department and the Covington County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement determined that Vanhook was living at his registered address sporadically, staying there some nights and at another address other nights.

“Thank you to our local law enforcement agencies for their thoroughness in ensuring sex offenders are compliant with the law,” Covington County District Attorney Walt Merrell said. “And to assistant district attorney Nikki Stephens for her diligence in prosecuting these cases.”
