The Opp High School Marching Black and Gold will take the audience into the jungle this year during their half time show.

The show this year is titled, “Welcome to the Jungle,” and features selections such as, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” “The Bare Necessities” and “Cool and the Gang’s Jungle Boogie” mashed up with “Africa” by Toto.

“I was digging through a music website earlier this spring,” Band director Dillon Worley said. “And I was intending on doing some Disney tunes for a concert at our elementary school. I came across a really cool arrangement of the ‘Bare Necessities,’ from the Jungle Book. I decided to put the Disney tunes on hold and kind of built my halftime show around being able to play that arrangement of the ‘Bare Necessities.’”

In July, the Marching Black and Gold participated in band camp and Worley said it was a great time.

“I think we had a great band camp,” Worley said. “The kids really like the show music and they like everything that we are doing.”

Worley said he is excited about doing the show this year because it is different from what they usually do.

“I am very excited because this show is a lot different from what Opp has done in the past,” Worley said. “I am excited to see the crowd’s reaction from that. Of course, we are always excited about our band competition, Little Big Horn. I am just ready to see the kids on the field having a great time.”
