South Alabama Regional Airport has a contractor for its $495,000 runway lighting project.

Executive Director Jed Blackwell announced this week that TCA Electrical Contractors from Tifton, Ga., won the contract.

Michelle Conway, project coordinator, said it would be at least October until the company could get to the project due to other obligations.

Blackwell said his thoughts were to ask the company to wait until Christmas holidays so it won’t create issues for the military helicopters refueling at SARA.

The runway will need to be closed for three days to complete the project.

Blackwell said in June that is part of a continuous project to improve the airport.

Airports can receive certain amount of AIP entitlement funding each year based on activity levels and project needs.

Using these funds, SARA has been able to make a lot of needed improvements to the airport.
