Fans of the Andalusia Bulldogs got a glimpse into what the 2019 season will look like last night at “Meet the Bulldogs.”

“It’s been good,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said about fall practice. “The heat has affected everybody. I tell you, we have been very fortunate. We’ve had one day, I feel like, out of the first seven that it was just like, wow. That wasn’t even this week.”

Taylor said the team has gotten lucky with escaping the hottest parts of the days.

“Monday was extremely hot, but right when we went to practice it started raining,” Taylor said. “Tuesday we went at 6 p.m., and of course we got a shower about 3 p.m., and it stayed overcast after that. Really and truly it was the same scenario last week. Last Tuesday, which was just a shorts day, was pretty tough. The heat was pounding down and we didn’t get a break with overcast skies, but we’ve had a good seven days.”

The Bulldogs are ready to get the season started, Taylor said.

“I think our kids are ready to play,” Taylor said. “The energy level Tuesday night was fantastic. We’ve had great energy, the kids have jumped around and acted like they wanted to be there.”

Taylor said it’s important for the kids to want to be at practice to improve.

“It’s amazing to me the longer I do this, is you get kids that come out, in this case football or whatever the sport may be, once they get out there you wonder why they are playing,” Taylor said. “It seems to be just drudgery the whole time they are out there. The truth of the matter is you play any sport for the games, but you also have to understand there is a certain amount of practice that has to go into getting ready. To be honest with you, if it wasn’t for practice we wouldn’t be able to outfit everyone that wanted to play. I tell them all the time, you chose us, you chose this game. It certainly doesn’t owe you anything, but there is a whole lot you can learn from it. Be excited about being here. I’ve been very very pleased with this group. They seem to be having a good time. They like each other and they just have a good time practicing football. They are ready for next Friday, as we all are, but still they have had fun.”
