The Pleasant Home Eagles came out fighting against the Elberta High School Warriors but fell short, 26-6.

Head coach Richard Mercer said the first half of the game was the strongest.

“We came out and scored first, but missed the extra point,” Mercer said. “We played toe to toe in the first part of the game. After we scored, we forced a turnover and we were just playing so good. Even when they scored and took the lead with an extra point, we stayed in it and had an opportunity to score a pick-six.”

Mercer said though the team is young, he is excited to see how they mature throughout the year.

“I mean, we are playing with a ninth-grade quarterback and a ninth-grade tailback,” Mercer said. “I am proud of the way that they played tonight, though.”

After a couple of injuries, Mercer hopes they can recuperate during the bye week next Friday.

The Eagles go back to work Sept. 6, against the Elba High School Tigers.
