The Andalusia Bulldogs scored early and often on their way to a 49-6 win over the Monroe County Tigers on Friday in Monroeville.

Andalusia got the ball to start the game and needed only three plays to find the end zone.

After Jake Wilson connected on passes to Zymon Ray and Omare Latimer, Elijah McClain rushed in from 40 yards out for the first score of the game.

Reese Burkhardt drove in the extra point to put Andalusia up 7-0 with 10:30 left in the opening quarter.

Monroe County’s first possession didn’t last long as they were forced to attempt a punt.

The Monroe County punter mishandled the snap and the Bulldogs took over on the Tigers’ 13-yard line.

However, the Andalusia drive went backwards and the Bulldogs were forced to punt.

The Andalusia defense stood tall once again on the next drive and Monroe County elected to go for it on fourth down.

The fourth down run was no good and Andalusia took over on their own 41-yard line.

Andalusia’s offense didn’t need much time as McClain rushed in for a 45-yard touchdown. Burkhardt’s extra point gave the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead with 1:10 left in the opening quarter.

Andalusia’s defense came up with another stop and Monroe County attempted another punt.

The snap was dropped and Cameron Morissette recovered the ball on the Tigers’ 15-yard line.

Morissette then took the ball 15 yards on the next play for a rumbling Bulldog touchdown. Burkhardt’s extra point gave Andalusia a 21-0 lead with 10:52 left in the second quarter.

Monroe County turned the ball over again on a botched punt attempt on their own 15-yard line.

Three plays later, Josh Gurley found the end zone for another Bulldog touchdown. Andalusia was up 28-0 with 7:11 left before halftime.

The Andalusia defense forced another turnover on downs and the offense went right back to work.

Wilson kept it himself and raced 24 yards to the end zone to put Andalusia up 35-0 with 3:23 left before halftime.

Erik McClain came up with an interception on the next drive and returned the ball to the Monroe County 17-yard line.

After penalties pushed Andalusia back, Wilson connected with Zymon Ray to put the Bulldogs on the 6-yard line.

Morrissette punched the ball in from 6-yards out to put the Bulldogs up 42-0 with 32 seconds left in the second quarter.

Instead of running out the clock and going to halftime, Monroe County elected to throw the ball.

Mike Hourel Jr., made the Tigers pay as he came up with a pick-six that put Andalusia up 49-0 with 31 seconds left before halftime.

At halftime, Andalusia was up 49-0.

Monroe County was able to score on a long run early in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for a 49-6 win.

“I was proud of our guys,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said. “Monroe County is a young team. I told them we have to play our game and do what we need to do and I thought we did a great job of that. Finally back at home next week.”

Andalusia will host Hillcrest-Evergreen next Friday.
