In a Covington County rivalry match-up, the Florala High School Wildcats took home the ‘W’ against Red Level High School Tigers 52-7 last night.

Vinson Flowers started the scoring drive for the Wildcats after a fumble from the Tigers on the second play of the drive.

Red Level hoped to tie things up with 7:40 left in the game, but after three fumbles, Florala recovered the ball on the two-yard line.

Logan West rushed 46 yards to get the Wildcats to the 48-yard line and then he connected with Zaccaeus Reese to get into the red zone.

West then connected with Arhone’ Stonet to increase the Wildcat lead to 12-0, after a failed two point conversion.

The Tigers got the ball on the 25-yard line to start the next drive, but ended up punting, putting the Wildcats on the 50-yard line.

Flowers had a 50 yard run to the end zone to make it 19-0 with 2:16 left in the first quarter.

The Wildcats immediately received the ball back after a fumble on the kickoff from the Tigers, putting them at the opposing 10-yard line.

With 35 seconds left in the first quarter, Florala tried to go for it on fourth down, but had an incomplete pass causing a turnover on downs.

Red Level’s Parker Spears picked up two first downs at the end of the first quarter, but Red Level ended up having to punt.

From their own 35 yard line, the Wildcats struck again as West rushed with 4:21 left in the second quarter making the score 26-0.

At the end of the half, Florala managed to increase their lead again when West connected with Austin Howell for a 45 yard passing touchdown to go up 33-0.

At the start of the second half, West rushed to the end zone from his own 35 yard line. After a missed PAT, the Wildcats were up 39-0.

The Tigers were able to get on the score board with a rushing touchdown from Spears, but the Wildcats answered when West rushed for a touchdown again with 2:31 left in the game to make it 45-7.

At the end of the third quarter, Stonet scored the last of Florala’s points with a 40 yard rushing touchdown making it 52-7.

“I have told the boys all season that we need to play four quarters,” Florala head coach Toby Greene said. “I think we definitely played four quarters tonight. We never let up and I am proud of our boys for doing what we asked them to do.”

The win tonight makes it Greene’s 100th career win.

“It feels good,” Greene said. “Honestly I’m just happy for our kids. We won two in a row and that’s the first time we have done that this year. I know it’s 100 wins, but I have never made a block or a tackle. It’s always been the kids. I’m just blessed to be a coach.”

With the win, the Wildcats improve to (4-3) (2-2) and the Tigers are at (1-5) (0-4.)

Next week, Florala hosts McKenzie High School and Red Level hosts Brantley High School both at 7 p.m.
