The Opp Bobcats (3-3, 3-1) picked up key region victory after knocking off Wicksburg 48-0 on Friday night in Opp.
“I was pleased with the way we bounced back after a game like last week,” Opp head coach Brent Hill said. “I thought we played all three aspects of the game well. It was just a good team victory.”
Hill said that the Bobcats were able to really control the tempo of the game.
“The defense did a great job tonight,” Hill said. “They were able to score a touchdown and they forced some turnovers. They never gave up anything big and I was very pleased with that.”
Opp came out and took it straight at Wicksburg, Hill said.
“We played very physical tonight,” Hill said. “We had a hard week of practice and I felt like the kids were very hungry. We also didn’t turn the ball over and do some of things that have been hurting us. We are still a young team, but I saw us play with a lot of maturity tonight.”
Hal Smithart had a big game for the Bobcats going 14-for-24 with 216 yards and three touchdowns.
Erick Matthews also had big game for Opp as he hauled in six catches for 126 yards and two scores.
Dada Stoudemire added one catch for 28 yards and a score.
Ashton Patel rushed 13 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
Brady James had five tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown.
Zack Ridgeway and Kevin Pareirra each had three tackles and one interception.
Opp will host Providence Christian next Friday night for the Bobcats’ homecoming game.
