A structure fire over the weekend has landed one Andalusia man in the hospital.

On Sat., Jan. 19, the home on 204 Cadiz Street was engulfed with fire and Station one from the Andalusia Fire Department was dispatched.

“Engine seven followed by engine 12 left station one en route to Cadiz Street,” AFD chief Russell McGlamory said. “While in route, we were advised that there was a possible occupant inside of the residence. Engine seven then advised the communication center a recall for additional backup.”

After making it to the fire hydrant, pumps were engaged and firefighters used hand lines to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters then made entry into the home,” McGlamory said. “The front door was unlocked and the rear door was jammed with debris. Firefighters found the occupant approximately 10 feet inside the front door. His body was hidden under debris. The occupant was still breathing and was rushed outside by the firefighting crew and loaded onto a stretcher so EMS could take over and transport the patient. The fire crew then overhauled the structure making sure all fire and smoldering debris was put out.”

At the moment, Alabama fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire and McGlamory said the patient is still in Mobile at the hospital.
