Covington County is due for some heavy rainfall according to Emergency Management Agency director Susan Harris.

“We are continuing to monitor the potential for active weather Wednesday afternoon through Thursday,” Harris said. “A strong cold front will slowly move across the area Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. With this front, heavy rainfall and strong to severe storms will be possible. There are still timing issues with the models and more details will likely become clearer in the coming days.”

Harris said the storms will be late Wednesday afternoon and early into Thursday.

“Rain will begin Wednesday and persist through Thursday,” Harris said. “The best potential for strong storms will be late Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday morning. Heavy rainfall of 2 to 4 inches with locally heavier amounts leading to the potential of flash flooding in low lying urban areas and minor river flooding is what we are expecting.”
