Gas prices around the state are beginning to drop due to low seasonal demand and the coronavirus.
Clay Ingram, spokesperson for AAA Alabama said that prices are currently dropping due to low demand.
“The low demand is caused by inclement weather and by the huge drop in demand in China because of the coronavirus,” he said.
The coronavirus has basically shut down China for the time being.
Additionally, January and February are traditionally lower demand months following the holiday travel season.
The state average is around $2.16 per gallon.
Last week, it was $2.21 a gallon and last month it was $2.36 per gallon.
“I think we will see prices continue to drop over the next two to three weeks – maybe a little longer,” he said. “Then, when March gets here, we should see some slight increases. Warmer weather will make our demand increase, so our prices usually follow along with it.’
In Andalusia, gas prices are between $2.03 and $2.04 per gallon.
