A local business will open its doors in Sanford around the new year.

Mayor Chris Thomasson said Friday that Jonathan Brooks of JBrooks Construction had acquired a town of Sanford property to put his business and new storefront.

“We are excited about this new business,” Mayor Chris Thomasson said. “We purchased the property for this a few years ago in hopes of attracting a business.”

Brooks said he opened the company is June of 2017 with himself and one other employee and now has 19 employees. He anticipates hiring four to five more when the storefront opens and eventually adding 10 total employees with the expansion.

“We have expanded quite rapidly,” he said.

In the past, Brooks said they have primarily completed projects in commercial and industrial work in areas surrounding Covington County, but plan to offer residential services in electrical work.

At the new location, they will also have a showroom that features solar power, green energy and emergency power generators.

Brooks said the plan is to transition from his home office to the Sanford location at the turn of the year.

“We usually shut down the business for Christmas, and we plan to then move over to the new location,” he said.

At the site, Brooks is building two new buildings – one for a 4,000-square foot warehouse to store stock and additional equipment, and a 3,698-square foot office and showroom.

Brooks said he ultimately selected the Sanford location because he knew he wanted to be on the main bypass and he wanted to be located in a more centralized place.

“My employees come from a lot of different areas,” he said. “It’s a really good location.”

Brooks said they are excited about the new location and the opportunity to be in Sanford.
