James W. Bristow, 93, “the lucky man” as he frequently called himself, passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by his loving family on Jan 30, 2021 after a brief illness of cancer.

James was born in Union Springs, AL on January 7, 1928, son of the late Chesley and Bessie Bristow. He proudly served his country in World War II from 1945-1947.  After returning from service, he graduated from Auburn University in 1949, then known as Alabama Polytechnic Institute.  He was so proud to be an Auburn graduate and the first in his family to get a college education.
James was married to the love of his life, Helen, for 56 years until her death in 2005. He enjoyed a long career employed by Massey Ferguson for 35 years, and upon returning to Andalusia “to retire” he became a successful top salesman at Andalusia Ford for 10 years.
James is survived by his greatest legacy, a broad and extended family that adored him including his sister Marie Bristow Allen of Union Springs AL; daughters Edith Bristow Holland of Charlotte NC and Susan Bristow Cammack (Walter) of Andalusia AL; his six grandchildren, Angel Braswell Smith (Ticer) of Pinehurst NC; Amy Williams (Todd) of Charlotte NC; Brian Pope (Stephanie) of Calera AL; Jennifer Bradley (Tony) of Andalusia AL; Lindsey Reeves (Joey) of Andalusia AL; and Will Cammack (Latrissa) of Slocumb AL; and his 14 great grandchildren that were all his “buddies”!
James was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leroy and Glenn Bristow; sisters Ann Bristow Daniel and Wilma Bristow Cook and his beloved wife, Helen Kinard Bristow.
Graveside services will be at 11 AM Tuesday February 2nd at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Chaplain Mark Springer officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will begin at 9:45 AM Tuesday at Foreman Funeral Home.
The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the Full Tummy Project, P. O. Box 211, Andalusia, AL  36420 or St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Joey Reeves, Brian Pope, Will Cammack, Tony Bradley, Lee Cook, and Don Allen.
