Once LeAnn King finished her associate degree, the plan was to continue her education, but she felt God led her to a different opportunity and opened Foster+McCain Boutique in Andalusia.

King decided to open her own business after graduating from LBW Community College. The state’s most popular universities accepted her, but she ultimately chose to remain home and use her associate degree.

“I had to decide whether or not I wanted to go off to a four-year university or do something with my associate degree. I had offers from Auburn and Alabama for Interior Design, which has always been a passion of mine. I started getting really nervous about going off and leaving home. It just didn’t feel quite right in my heart, and I wasn’t settled with the thought of living hours away,” King said.

She stated she prayed for a sign to be sent her way, which came when Fletcher’s posted they had rental spaces available. King said her mother and father have been her biggest fans throughout her life but especially during this process of running a business.

“My mom encouraged me to go ahead and get started. I decided on a boutique because I love fashion and clothes, and I may have a slight shopping problem.”

Foster+McCain opened in Andalusia on Sept. 2. When trying to decide on a name, she said she wanted it to be something fun and a little classy.

“Foster was the first name to come to mind and just happened to be my great-grandfather’s name, which made it all the more special to me. McCain is just a name I always loved, so when I put them together, I knew it was perfect.”

King thought Andalusia would be the perfect fit for her business because it is where she grew up. “My whole family is here, and my parents adopted me from overseas and brought me when I was only 8 months old. I love this community and how sweet it is. It will always hold a special place in my heart.”

FM Boutique offers bright colors for all seasons rather than the normal neutrals, according to King.

“I want anyone who wants to wear clothes from my shop to wear them and feel confident in them and themselves. With that being said, I encourage everyone to come shop with me. I love everything in my store right now. It’s very cute and trendy.”

King said she enjoys being a small business owner because it gives her an opportunity to create something she loves. She added she also takes pride in getting to see other people enjoy it as much as her.

“I have such a great appreciation for other small businesses now that I have my own because it is hard work and more than I ever expected. I have a lot of respect for other business owners and all they put into their businesses.”

Foster+McCain Boutique is located at 13761 Brooklyn Road, Suite C next to Fletcher’s in Andalusia and is open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

“I love my location because I get to meet a lot of new people from out of town because of the beach traffic. Not only that, I have the best neighbors at The Rody Mil Marketplace.”
