Pat Dunn

Pat Dunn, 81, of Cullman, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2021, after a three-year battle with dementia. Pat graduated from Andalusia High School in 1958 and married the same year.

She moved to Cullman in 1966 and after several years of operating her own dress and wig store, Pat’s Fashions, she began working for the City of Cullman. She found joy in working for the Community Development Agency and later in the Mayor’s Office before retiring in 2010.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cullman.

Pat is survived by one daughter, Tomesa Smith (Steven) of Cullman, two grandchildren that called her “Nana”, Will Smith (Joan) of Huntsville, CadeAnn Smith (Ian Sams, fiancé) of Washington D.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Smith, and Wilson Smith.  Other immediate survivors include her sister, Peggy Butler (William) of San Marcos, California; one nephew, Bill Butler (Ann) of Los Angeles, California; one niece, Kelly Whitton (Jeff) of Rancho Santa Fe, California; five grandnephews and two grand nieces. Pat is predeceased by her daughter, Sonja Herrmann; and parents, James “Jack” Carter and Bernice Carter.

A small memorial service was held in the outdoor prayer garden of First United Methodist Church of Cullman on Wednesday, September 15, at 3:30 p.m. Due to COVID concerns, there was no visitation. Interment was to be held with a private service at a later date. To God be the glory.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Westminster for the care, kindness, and concern for their mom. Also, special thanks to Dr. Brian Parker, Cullman Internal Medicine, and Cullman Regional Medical Center for their assistance in crucial times of her care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dr. Tomesa Smith Scholarship Fund, mailed to Wallace State Community College Future Foundation, Inc, PO Box 568, Hanceville, AL 35077, or made online at www.wsccfuturefoundation.org
