Local residents Jason Curry and Yancey Dubose have teamed up to share the unique skill of axe throwing through Andalusia’s newest business called TanAxe.

Born and raised locally, the two friends feel the area makes a great fit for their business. “TanAxe is an axe throwing and gaming entertainment venue unique to the area,” Curry said. “We wanted to bring an establishment to Andalusia that gives people a place to come out and enjoy themselves without having to leave town.”

The Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting the first day TanAxe opened to the public: Friday, Sept. 24. There is a wide assortment of activities for all ages to enjoy. In addition to the main attraction of axe throwing, activities include Jenga, cup pong, cornhole, and darts. There is also a party room with two private axe lanes for birthday parties, group parties, and company parties. The room is offered for parties of up to 20 people starting at $200 for 2 hours.

Curry said those wishing to participate in the axe throwing activity must meet two important requirements. “You will need to book a reservation by going to our Facebook page (TanAxe) and clicking on our website link. While there, you must also sign a waiver as you book your reservation.” Although waivers may be filled out upon arrival, completing the process online is strongly recommended.

For amateurs unfamiliar to axe throwing, instruction and coaching are offered. “We use standard 14-inch axes and want to help you become the ultimate axe thrower. You can also enjoy beverages and snacks while you throw,” Curry said.

The venue contains eight axe throwing lanes. In addition to the two private lanes designated for larger groups or head-to-head play, five are reserved for guests making online appointments, and one is used for walk-in customers.

A tanning salon with sunless tanning options will arrive at the venue beginning this month. Those services include tanning beds, a fully automated mystic spray tan booth, and a sun lighten infrared sauna. He said, “Our products and services were designed to satisfy all of our customers anytime, anywhere. We are committed to customer satisfaction as our top priority.”

TanAxe is located at 1219 MLK Jr. Expressway next to King Buffet. Hours of operation are from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to midnight Friday, and 2 p.m. until midnight Saturday.
