The Covington County Emergency Management Agency is warning residents of the possibility of severe weather later this week.

According to CCEMA Director Susan Harris, a strong storm system will develop over the Plains and move east across the region Wednesday into Thursday, bringing with it a chance for severe weather across the local area.

The system could bring severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and potentially tornado activity.

While the timing of the potential storm is still uncertain, at this time it appears the front could arrive Wednesday evening with the greatest risk of severe thunderstorms occurring through Wednesday night.

“We have medium confidence that a severe weather event will occur over the forecast area, but confidence is still low regarding the timing of the system,” stated a release from the CCEMA.
