Mr. Ralph Eugene “Gene” Pouncey Jr, 78, a resident of Red Level, Alabama and formerly of Glenwood, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022. Funeral services for Mr. Pouncey will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 8th, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. David Greer, Rev. Ray Wells, and Brother Ricky Grant officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 – 8 PM.

Mr. Pouncey was a 1962 graduate of Luverne High School and he joined the Alabama National Guard in 1963. He specialized in automotive maintenance during his service before he was medically discharged following an automobile accident. After his discharge, Mr. Pouncey settled down close to where he grew up and raised his three children in the same loving community he thrived in. He was known as the “Bread Man” during his time working for Colonial Bread before moving on to work as a supervisor for RC Cola. Finally, he started a successful career as an insurance salesman until his retirement. Mr. Pouncey was so successful because he knew the importance of treating his clients like they were members of his family and made sure to treat them with love and care.

In his younger days, Mr. Pouncey enjoyed participating in the softball church league with multiple teams over the years. He always loved spending time outside in nature, including hunting and fishing. He was also an active member of the American Legion throughout his life. He loved jawing about baseball with anyone who would listen and was a diehard Atlanta Braves fan. Saturdays in the fall usually found him cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide football team as well. However, there were few activities Mr. Pouncey enjoyed more than karaoke. You certainly never had to ask him twice if he wanted to sing a favorite tune or two or five! Above all, however, nothing mattered more to him than his family. He was blessed with quite a large family, both immediate and extended, and he loved every single one of them fiercely. He knew they were the most precious gift he could ever receive, and they cherished him just as much. Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed, but his loved ones will find comfort in the lifetime of memories they have made together.

Mr. Pouncey was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Eugene Sr & Myra Elizabeth Tisdale Pouncey. He is survived by his children, Tracy Vick, Bryan (Becca) Pouncey, and Lance (Miranda) Pouncey; grandchildren, Mallory Pouncey, Bray (Lisa) Pouncey, Haley Vick, Jason Gorum Pouncey, Austin Pouncey, Caden Pouncey, Bailey Kelly, Carleigh Pouncey, Zachary (Desirae) Pouncey, Jacob Pouncey, Dalton Odom, Logan (Breanna) Odom, Dylan (Angel) Pouncey, Harleigh Pouncey, and Lucas Odom; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Sue (King) Hughes, Linda (Larry) Tomlin, Doris (Terry) Moody, Peggy (George) Tranum, and Charles “Ronny” Pouncey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Bray Pouncey, Jason Pouncey, Austin Pouncey, Caden Pouncey, Zachary Pouncey, Jacob Pouncey, Dalton Odom, Logan Odom, Dylan Pouncey, and Lucas Odom.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church.
