Three injured in weekend boating accident near Gantt Lake

Three people were injured Saturday evening in a boating accident on the Conecuh River.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the driver of the boat as well as two of three passengers were injured when the boat hit a tree.

The operator of the boat, Justin H. Cauley, 23, of Andalusia was seriously injured when the 16-foot Aluma-craft boat struck the tree.

Also injured were two passengers, Elijah C. Courson, 22, of McKenzie, and Cierra J. Bakke, 23, of Andalusia.

Cauley and Courson were transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, and Bakke was taken to Andalusia Health Hospital for treatment after the crash.

The single-vessel crash occurred at approximately 9:55 p.m., just south of a boat ramp on U.S. 29 near Gantt Lake in Covington County.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division continue to investigate.
