Opp Police Department investigating Tuesday afternoon death

The Opp Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a woman was found dead inside a residence.
According to an OPD press release, police received a call from EMS and Opp Fire Department officials on Tuesday, August 16, at approximately 4:32 p.m., of an unresponsive female in a house on the 400 block of West Street.
Upon arrival, police officers found a 43-year-old female deceased in a bedroom inside the residence. A search warrant was obtained and narcotics were found inside the residence. The deceased female has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy in an effort to determine the cause of death. According to police, a preliminary investigation did not reveal any signs of violence.
The identification of the deceased female is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The Covington County District Attorney’s Office is assisting the OPD with the investigation.
