Kennleigh Taylor Lee, age 14, of McKenzie, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, in Dothan, Alabama.
Kennleigh is the daughter of Shane and Leigh Lee. She has a younger sister, Blakeleigh, and a younger brother, Isaac. From a young age, Kennleigh had a love for three things: God, music, and horses.
First, her faith in God was unquestionable. She never met someone who didn’t know that she loved Jesus and that she wasn’t scared to talk about him. Second, while it took some time, she became an exceptional piano player; she used that as an instrument for her testimony and outreach for Jesus. She could be found every Sunday morning and Wednesday night playing the piano at church and singing about her Jesus. Third, horses were another of Kennleigh’s favorites. Her horse, Cross, was hers—and she made sure that people knew it! She would ride that horse for hours on end just trying to get better. One thing set her apart in the world of horses and barrel racing, though: When she was in competitions, she didn’t want all the glory. She wanted everyone to win because that’s the kind of person that she was. When she wasn’t running barrels, she was her cousin’s biggest cheerleader. If they walked away with an award, she was just as happy as if she had won. We saw that as evidence that Jesus was shining through her.
Kennleigh was a caring and compassionate individual who put others before herself. She would give her last dollar or the shirt off of her back if someone needed it. She was never one to brag on accomplishments, either; she would make sure that others had what they needed before taking care of her needs. This was evident with her younger cousin, Carlie. Kennleigh did anything that Carlie wanted and made sure that she was taken care of. She helped her Aunt Ashley on trips to Birmingham or other places just so that Carlie was taken care of. Kennleigh truly had a “Mary heart in a Martha world.” This quote from Truett Cathy sums our Kennleigh up: “Nearly every moment of every day we have the opportunity to give something to someone else-our time, our love, our resources. I have always found more joy in giving when I do not expect anything in return.”
