The City of Opp and Opp Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting to celebrate the re-opening of the U.S. Hwy. 331 bridge.
The bridge over Lightwood Knot Creek was closed in November 2021, causing detours for drivers while the Alabama Department of Transportation worked to replace the bridge. Culvert work over Gin Creek was also part of the project.
The culvert and bridge work began in July 2021. In August of that year, a new traffic pattern was utilized to allow for work on the bridge and culvert to be done simultaneously in order to expedite the process and minimize the overall construction and detour time.
The city and chamber invite the community to the grand re-opening of the bridge, which will be held Friday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. Guests will meet on the north side of the bridge.
“Please join us as we celebrate the re-opening of the bridge, which should prove beneficial to our city and our local businesses,” said Opp Chamber Director Kelly Brandin.
