The 2022-2023 basketball regular season is now complete, and attention now turns to the postseason for all six county schools.

The area tournament is the first hurdle to clear for teams on the path to a state championship. The top-seeded girls and boys in each area will be the designated host for each tournament. Red Level and Straughn will host girls’ brackets, while Andalusia, Florala, Opp, and Red Level will serve as the location for boys’ brackets.

In 2019, the Central Board of Control, on recommendation from the basketball committee, changed the format to allow area tournaments for all areas that have an odd number of schools. In a 3 or 5-team area, the “play in” game will be played at the higher seed of the two schools involved in that game. In a 3-team area, the (2) seed will host the (3) seed in the single game. The winner would then travel to the (1) seed for the championship. In a 5-team area, the (4) seed will host the (5) seed in the single game, and the winner would then travel to the (1) seed to play the semifinal contest. For all 4-team areas, semi-finals and finals will all be played at the (1) seed.

The champion and runner-up of each area will advance to the sub-regional round on Feb. 13 (girls) and Feb. 14 (boys).

The Alabama High School Athletic Association has set the cost of admission at $8 per session. All tickets must be purchased online at https://gofan.co or through the GoFan mobile app.

All six Covington County teams will be represented by their varsity girls and boys.
