Opp Police Department conducts investigation of weekend death

The Opp Police Department is investigating a death after a man was discovered dead Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to a residence on the 2300 block of W. Cummings Avenue on March 4, at approximately 12:55 p.m. after receiving a call of a possible deceased male. Upon arriving, police found Kelvin Burks, 41, of Opp deceased in the kitchen of the home.
Opp Police Chief Kevin Chance said criminal investigators were called to the scene and a search warrant for the home was obtained. Burks was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to determine the cause of the death. The OPD is being assisted by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation and the Covington County District Attorney’s Office, according to the police chief.
