Local Head Start and Early Head Start programs are currently accepting applications, according to the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission.

The programs are open for children ages birth through 5. Pregnant women and children with differing abilities are encouraged to apply.

Head Start and EHS are federally-funded programs that are family-focused and community oriented, meeting the social, emotional, health and nutritional needs of income-eligible children and families.

The programs are free with fee requirements.

Enrollment will require the following documents: birth certificate, insurance policy, baptism record, school record, Medicaid record, and immunization record. Proof of income can be provided with tax forms, W2, pay stubs (one year), child support, or unemployment benefits.
