LBW Community College students Lexie Cook and Jay Osborne have each been awarded a mascot scholarship for 2023-2024 and recently accepted their scholarship with “Blue.”

Cook, a freshman from Red Level, is no stranger to the fun a mascot can bring to the community. She served as the Red Level Tiger mascot before transferring to Sparta Academy.

She chose to attend LBW “because the faculty have been so welcoming.”

“LBW feels like home, a place where I will be able to grow and develop not just academically but in all aspects of life. I am looking forward to being Blue because I get the chance to be a part of the game and other activities on and off campus,” Cook said.

Her plans are to complete the LBWCC Nursing program and work as a registered nurse in a local hospital.

Osborne, a sophomore drama student from Luverne, served as the mascot last year when it was apparent that Blue was going to be more popular than just one student’s schedule could handle.

“Being Blue allows me to express myself artistically while representing LBW. I love making people, especially kids, happy while maintaining my separate identity,” Osborne stated.

Osborne has a magnetic personality and loves to dance, which led to him forming a new student group on campus called the Common Ground Steppers. He is also active in the SGA and works in the on-campus restaurant, Saints Café. He has plans to transfer to Troy University to finish his bachelor’s degree in Theater.
