A suspect for whom the Andalusia Police Department has a warrant in an October murder was arrested in Indiana Wednesday.
A trooper from the Indiana State Police stopped a red Ford Focus for speeding Wednesday. During the course of the traffic stop, Trooper Corey Bell discovered that the driver, Teddy Donnell Cozart, 20, of Andalusia, was wanted on an active Alabama warrant for homicide.
Andalusia Police Chief Paul Hudson said Cozart is a suspect in the October 19, 2022 death of Teyvous Cobbins, 22, of Evergreen.
When officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Foxwood Village Apartments that evening, they found Cobbins suffering from a gunshot wound, sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Cobbins was transported to Andalusia Health, and later taken by helicopter to a Florida trauma center, where he died the next day.
Indiana troopers arrested Cozart and transported him to the Delaware County (Indiana) Jail, where he awaits extradition to Alabama.
Chief Hudson asked that anyone with information about the case call the APD at 334-222-1155, or Central Alabama Crimestoppers at 334-215-STOP (334-215-7867).
