The South Alabama Regional Airport honored two board members and a longtime employee at its regularly scheduled board meeting Wednesday, June 7.

Mike Holloway has served SARA as a board member for 22 years. He was appointed to the board by the City of Andalusia in 2000.

“Mike Holloway represents every characteristic of good that you can think of. He has been a leader for our airport and a pillar of our community for many years dating back to his time working at Andalusia Health to the numerous hours of community service he’s given. The airport has had extraordinary growth under Mike’s leadership. Mayor Earl Johnson could not have appointed a better person to this position. You have been a great role model and asset to the airport,” SARA Executive Director Jed Blackwell said.

Gary Smith has served SARA as a board member for 17 years and the last 14 years as the board chairman. He was appointed by the cities of Andalusia and Opp as well as the Covington County Commission.

“Gary Smith has led the airport through many tough times. He came in during a time of major transition for us. Under his leadership, the airport has grown from a municipal airport to a regional airport. Gary provides outstanding leadership as chairman of the airport board. His talent and leadership are the backbone of the airport’s success over the past decade and a half. All of us look up to him for not only what he does with the airport and in his job at PowerSouth but his generosity in the community as a whole,” Blackwell said.

Misty Jones Dutton has worked 20 years at the airport and the last 15 years in management as the administrator.

“Misty Jones Dutton has been the driving force behind many things that we’ve done at the airport. Being the director, I know a lot of eyes are on me, but she pushes me the most and helps me come to the decisions made the most. She handles all financial aspects of our operation along with special projects and much more. She is as devoted and hard working as they come. She’s also one of the most selfless people I’ve ever known always putting others needs first. We are honored and blessed to have Misty serve in this position and are excited about the future for our airport,” Blackwell said.
