The Covington County EMA will open a community shelter at Andalusia Jr. High School at 408 Fourth Avenue in Andalusia tonight due to the possibility of severe weather entering the area.

The shelter will open at 5 p.m. for those interested in staying with the time subject to change due to the track of the storm. It will only be open until the storm passes over the county.

EMA officials have requested for the public not to come to the shelter during the storm and encouraged those in need of shelter to bring all necessary supplies such as chairs, linens, food, entertainment, etc. No pets will be allowed.

According to the National Weather Service, severe thunderstorms are expected through at least Wednesday night. There are still some uncertainties regarding the overall evolution of storms. Additional adjustments to timing/threat areas are possible, especially on Wednesday/Wednesday night.

The greatest severe weather risk is expected late afternoon Wednesday into Wednesday night with the potential for very large hail, damaging winds, and flash flooding.
