A Covington County road is closed until further notice after a bridge collapsed along Padgett Road this past weekend.

Multiple agencies responded to a motor vehicle accident on Padgett Road, southwest of the Beck community. Upon arrival, officials found a log truck that was attempting to cross a wooden bridge stuck as the bridge collapsed before the truck could cross. Officials say fuel from the truck was seen leaking into the creek.

Crews quickly placed 30 feet of spill boom downstream to contain any fuel that might spill into the waterway during the recovery of the semi-log truck. The vehicle was successfully recovered and no injuries were reported.

Road-closed barricades are currently in place as Padgett Road is now closed to thru traffic until further notice.

Opp Fire Department, Covington County EMA, Carolina VFD, and Conway Deisel/Towing responded to the scene of the accident.
