CCBOE approves Red Level School assistant principal

The Covington County Board of Education approved seven additional personnel items including an assistant principal at a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, June 27.
Joseph Caldwell was approved as the assistant principal at Red Level School effective at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews. This position completes hiring of all leadership positions for the upcoming school year.
During the meeting the board also approved:
Resignation
- Victoria Wilson as teacher at Fleeta Junior High School retroactive to June 23
Employment
- James Lamont Russell (Monty) as physical education teacher at Florala High School effective at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
- Halie Dutton Bryant as lunchroom worker at Straughn Middle School effective at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
- Lesley M. Blackwell as lunchroom worker at Straughn Middle School effective at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
- Calvin Middleton as custodian at Red Level School effective at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
- Nikki Crum as special education teacher at RLS effective at the beginning of the 2023- 2024 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
The board also recognized members of the Straughn High School String Band and sponsor Taylor Weeks for winning the 2023 FFA state championship.
“We really appreciate the hard work and effort these students have put in. It has been rewarded here, and we congratulate you all,” Superintendent Shannon Driver said. “I remember the very first band. They were good then and have always been good ever since. They are good students with a good leader, too,” Board Member John “Sonny” Thomasson added.
The board set the next meeting date for July 17, noon, at the central office.
