The Covington County EMA office is advising residents to be alert to the possibility of flash flooding in the area Friday.

Slow-moving showers and storms are expected to move across northwest Florida and south central Alabama Friday morning before spreading west through the day. These storms will be capable of producing very heavy rainfall, which could result in areas of flash flooding, especially over eastern parts of the area.

According to the forecast, heavy rainfall will be possible with widespread 1 to 3 inches of rain. Some areas could see higher amounts, especially in areas where storms train over the same location. The timeline calls for weather activity beginning Friday morning and running through the afternoon hours in south Alabama and northwestern Florida counties.

Confidence in the flooding potential is moderate, but confidence in where exactly the heavier bands set up is low.
