The Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors has selected Mellisa King as the next executive director.

She will replace former executive director Laura Wells, who announced her resignation from the position on June 1.

King has served on the Chamber Board since 2019 and has been the president for the last year. She has been employed at SanBuck Insurance for the last 11 years. The first day of her new duties will be on Monday, July 24.

“I am so excited to become the executive director for the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce,” she said. “This is an amazing organization that does so much for our community and businesses. I have been working very closely with the chamber for the last several years, and I love all things about the position. I love event planning, fundraising, and making new and great things happen in our community.”

King received her insurance license in 2008 and has been involved in several non-profits over the years. These include the Andalusia Office Professionals Association, Coterie Club, Pilot Club, Full Tummy Project of Covington County, and Meredith’s Miracles.

She has served in all officer positions for the AOPA, Coterie Club, and Pilot Club. King was named the Coterie Club’s Member of the Year in 2012 and the AOPA’s Office Professional of the Year in 2013 and the AOPA Member of the Year in 2022. In addition, she received Pilot Club’s Member of the Year Award in 2012 and 2022. The Andalusia Rotary Club recognized her with the 2022 Spirit of Andalusia Award. She currently serves as co-chair of the Coterie Race for Kids and co-Anchor sponsor at Andalusia High School.

“I have many years of experience in non-profit organizations and event planning. I am organized and great at multi-tasking and always strive to present and do my best in all that I do.”

King has been appreciative of the support she has received for the position.

“I am grateful for all the support from the Chamber Board. Teamwork is dream work, and together, everyone achieves more,” she said.

She is a 1989 Andalusia High School alumna. As someone who has served her hometown for several years, she looks forward to presiding over the Andalusia Chamber.

“I hope to continue to grow our Chamber membership and continue to make our events bigger and better. I would like to come up with new things to bring more people to our wonderful town. It takes our whole community working toward the same goals to make our small town great. Everyone does a great job of this, and that is why Andalusia is continuing to grow and prosper.”

When she is not working or volunteering her time wherever she is needed, she serves as a professional caterer working weddings, birthday parties, school functions, and much more.

King is married to her husband, Bruce King, with three grown children: Dustin (Emily) King, Victoria (Michael) Peek, and Eben (Mallory) King. She also has seven grandchildren: Hudson, Hammett, Willa Kate, Noah, Harbor, Hollins, and Parker.
