Four candidates have qualified to fill seats on the Andalusia City Schools Board of Education with only one of the seats to be determined in an August election.

Three of the five seats on the board are up for election this year, which include Dist. 1, Dist. 3, and Dist. 5.

Residents in Dist. 5 will go to the poll on Tuesday, August 22 where two candidates have qualified. Incumbent board member David McCalman will be challenged by Shawn Geohagen.

Dist. 3 will be represented by John Wells who is the only qualifier for the seat. He will replace David Bryant who chose not to seek re-election. Bryant has served on the board about 21 years since his appointment to the seat in 2002.

Sammy Glover will continue to represent Dist. 1 as the only qualifying candidate.

Residents in District 2 and District 4 are not included in this year’s BOE election cycle. Those seats are held by Parrish King and Amy Duggar, who currently serves as president of the board.

Board members are elected by district. Only residents of Dist. 5 will go to the polls on Tuesday, August 22, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Kiwanis Center. Dist. 5 includes an area in the northeast portion of the city.
