The Andalusia Adult Activity Center provided a donation of approximately 30 small quilts and 20 stuffed animals to the Covington County Department of Human Resources on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Adult Activity Center Program Coordinator Sonja Godwin recognized those who helped make the donation possible.

“I want to thank the ladies that so selfishly gave of their talents and time to cut and sew the quilts and loveables (stuffed animals) that were donated to DHR. Thank you also to those that donate material and other items that help make our community projects possible. Volunteering and giving back can offer such a strong sense of purpose, and it’s a great way to support our community and those in need. I have always heard and believe we rise by lifting others,” Godwin said.

She also acknowledged gratitude to Mayor Earl Johnson and the Andalusia City Council for their support of the activity center.

“We are able to offer our senior adults in Andalusia and Covington County a wonderful place to come and enjoy some quality time with others who care. If you or a loved one is feeling lost or alone, I encourage you to come to the center and see what is offered and meet the people that call this place their home away from home. I guarantee you will be blown away with our programs from exercise, crafts, sewing, games, special events, dinner dances, and nutrition program. My staff and I hope to see you soon.”

Covington County DHR Director Lesa Rathel was appreciative of the Adult Activity Center’s generosity.

“We are incredibly thankful for the support and encouragement our community members provide to our agency and the clients we serve. Donations such as this allow us to give the families a tangible gift that represents this support. When a family or child is in crisis, these gifts bring much-needed comfort,” Rathel said.

The Adult Activity Center is located at 401 Walker Avenue in downtown Andalusia near the Ballet. Hours of operation are weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
