All six county teams will be in action this week as two look to keep their unbeaten seasons alive and one becomes the first school to celebrate homecoming this year.

Andalusia vs. Montgomery Academy
Andalusia (4-0, 2-0 4A Region 2) returns home and seeks to keep its unbeaten season going strong against Montgomery Academy (2-2, 2-0) in a region battle.

This will only be the second matchup between the two teams after clashing last year for the first time. The Bulldogs lead the series against the Eagles 1-0.

Andalusia picked up its second shutout of the season last week at Bullock County, 50-0. Montgomery Academy held on for a win at Dale County in a shootout, 57-42.

The Bulldogs routed the Eagles, 49-7, in the 2022 contest.

Florala vs. Pleasant Home
Florala (2-1, 1-1 1A Region 2) welcomes county rival Pleasant Home (1-2, 0-2) for its annual homecoming matchup and closes a three-game home stretch in region play.

The school will hold a parade Friday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. and present the queen and homecoming court prior to the game at 6 p.m.

This year marks the 24th straight season the two teams have squared off on the gridiron. The Eagles travel for the first time this year and have a 12-11 lead in the series, but the Wildcats have won five straight games since their last loss to their cross-county foe in 2017.

Florala stepped out of region play and doubled up Southern Choctaw last time, 44-22. Pleasant Home fell to McKenzie at home, 54-7.

The Wildcats went to the Eagles and earned a 50-20 win last season.

Opp vs. Pike County
Opp (1-3, 1-2 3A Region 2) is back home this week after a two-game swing in Dothan and takes on Pike County (2-1, 2-1) in a key region game.

This year’s contest is the 24th ever between the two teams with the Bulldogs holding a 14-8 series lead dating back to 1924. The Bobcats snapped a three-game skid last year.

Opp dropped a hard-fought defensive struggle at Providence Christian last time, 10-6.

The Bobcats edged out a 28-27 road win against the Bulldogs in 2022. Pike County pitched a 47-0 home shutout over Northside Methodist.

Red Level at McKenzie
Red Level (1-2, 1-2 1A Region 2) travels a short distance to McKenzie (2-2, 1-2) for another crucial region game.

The battle of the Tigers will be the 72nd meeting all-time dating back to 1928. The winner of this year’s game will take the lead in the series, which is currently locked in a 35-35-1 tie.

Red Level comes into the contest after a home region loss to Houston County last week, 40-35. McKenzie traveled to Pleasant Home and collected a 54-7 win last time.

Red Level squeaked past McKenzie at home in a thriller during the 2022 season, 25-24.

Straughn at Ashford
Straughn (3-0, 2-0 3A Region 2) aims for its fourth straight win of the season and fourth straight four-game unbeaten start in its longest road trip this year at Ashford (1-3, 0-3).

The Tigers will look to also remain undefeated against the Yellow Jackets and hold a 7-0 record all-time over their region foe since the 2010 season.

Straughn used a big second half for a non-region home win against Clarke County last week, 44-18. Ashford fell on the road at Houston Academy, 48-6.

The Tigers blew out the Yellow Jackets last year at home, 41-12.
