The Straughn Football Lettermen’s Club is seeking all former players, coaches, and cheerleaders to attend a special celebration of the Tigers’ 50th season in the modern era.

This milestone will be held on Friday, Oct. 6, when Straughn hosts Houston Academy in a 3A Region 2 matchup. Pregame and halftime festivities are planned.

Pre-game festivities will consist of a tailgate-styled event inside the stadium where a large tent will be located behind the south end zone as a gathering place for fellowship and food. Tables and chairs will be provided. Additionally, players, cheerleaders, and staff from the 1974 team will be recognized on the field prior to kickoff, where they will be given a commemorative coin. During halftime, players, coaches, and cheerleaders from each decade will be recognized, and a brief history of the program will be shared over the public address system.

Gates for the game on Oct. 6 will open to the general public at 5:30 p.m. Players, cheerleaders, and staff from the 1974 team will be granted free access to the stadium and the tailgate tent at 5 p.m. Those from the 1974 team will need to enter the stadium at the Robin Road entrance and provide name. One free pass will be granted to members of the 1974 team for both the game and tailgate.

For all other former players, coaches and cheerleaders, purchase of a game ticket is required to enter the stadium. All others will be admitted free to the tailgate event.

“We hope that all former players, cheerleaders, and coaches can attend this special occasion. A space will be provided at the tailgate event for memorabilia from your time as a Straughn football player, cheerleader or coach. Please bring along items to share such as newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, uniforms, yearbooks, and more,” a Lettermen’s Club release said.

Straughn Head Football Coach Ashley Kilcrease will join the tailgate for a few minutes during warm-ups at approximately 5:35 p.m.

The on-field pre-game recognition will begin at 6:30 p.m. A limited number of former players will be permitted to observe the team meeting at 6:40 p.m. in the field house prior to Straughn taking the field. Participation will be first come, first serve for the meeting.

“The Straughn Football Lettermen’s Club sincerely hopes that all former players and cheerleaders can attend this special occasion to renew old friendships, revolve memories, and see the current state of the program. We are excited about this event and hope to see you there,” the release continued.

Donations to the Straughn Football Lettermen’s club will also be accepted and can be made at the tent. A limited number of coins will be available for purchase for $25 each.
