Are you looking for a different evening experience? Mark your calendar and buy tickets now for “Tales from the Tomb” presented by ReAct Theatre and Arts.
“Tales from the Tomb” is a guided evening stroll through Magnolia Cemetery in Andalusia behind the Covington County Courthouse. This is not a ghost walk, but an historical event where the past comes alive.
Participants will form small groups and be led by a narrator guide along a dimly lighted path through the cemetery where they will hear brief monologues from citizens from Andalusia’s past portrayed by actors in costume. It promises to be a fascinating tour of some of the city’s earliest citizens.
Directed by Roger Powell, the event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning at 6 p.m. through approximately 8 p.m. Due to community-wide support, a second night was added on Sunday, Oct. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. Ticket holders need to wear comfortable clothing and shoes and be prepared to walk. Although much is accessible by motored scooters for the disabled, there may be a small section that could prove difficult. The tour lasts approximately 75 minutes.
Characters to be highlighted from Andalusia’s past include: Ary Duke, Henry Opp and Addie Bell Opp Guy, Lee Otis Battle, Mary Hill Randle, Mary Elizabeth Bellingrath Burnette, Pinkie Henderson Benson, Z. D. Studstill and Mrs. Prestwood, the D.A. McArtan Family, Josiah Jones, Uncle Aus Prestwood, and Malachi and Anna Chapman Riley and a special tribute to Sidney and Polly Waits.
All the deceased have interesting stories about their life, death, and place in our history and will be portrayed by living actors including: Carmen Martin, Frank Shaffer, Carol-Ann Mullins, Julie Knox, Era Grace Lowery, Sue Bass Wilson, Monica Bougafa, Shannon Glenn, Tanya Lambert, Kevin Kennedy, Lynn Capps, Matt Nelson, Vickie Nelson, Tommy McGaha, and Jennifer McClung.
The narrator guides who will tell the story of Magnolia Cemetery and lead groups include: Jamie Buhite, Don Cotton, Lori Godwin, Amy Jones, Holly Majors, Caryl Lee Ray, and Donna Skinner.
Tickets are sold out for the event.
